The Ruin of Rain

The drumming of this deluge
Impels this hand to motion
A taken key from ’round his neck
Like Ys might let in the sea

And under delirium’s lash
The pounding of her heartbeat
Becomes might and mien before
The grey ocean’s unleashed wrath

Drown’d geists like an incubus born
Obsess for pasts that never were while
The ruin of this rain recalls
That tragedy of optimism

No breath of life to strain conviction
Nor disbelief to challenge zeal
Only to refute the echoes of
This cadence of his curdled faith
