Years Like Leaves

Ponderous hands traverse this oaken weald
A sweep of time that eats of hunger
Where past bears of prologue a child annealed
Who draws then deep with memory’s dagger

Hushed places recount whispered snowfalls
Near emerald lakeshores and elfin glamour
Horse-trod paths led deep into nightfall
And beneath those stones I buried my honor

Years like leaves abandoned in autumn’s wake
That wrenches daylight away from this night
Veils rent like lies by this sword I would forsake
For that time herself would suffer this twilight rite
