The Malediction

Steered wrongly by that star
Beneath a spate of rain
That wretched baptism
Of self-inflicted malediction

With knaves and scholars
I broke bread and I drank wine
Conjured absinthal dreams
Of unrepented hope

The denunciated fallen
Condemned by all our works
Our symphony of lies
Of flies gorged fat on faith

What winged seraph now
Redeems my storied fancies
Who bleeds these broken hands
Of black and blood and whispered word?
